FAQ

Tell me more about your antique/vintage frames…

Antique frames (wood and brass), and florentine plaques come in a variety of conditions, ranging from pristine to gently worn, reflecting their age and history. They are all sourced from various vintage stores and antique marketplaces. I do my very best to ensure that each frame is structurally sound and suitable for display, but please expect signs of wear and patina, which contribute to their character. All brass frames are stamped “made in Italy” and are reminiscent of the baroque style.

Paintings on ‘florentine plaques’ emulate the Renaissance tradition, inlaid with intricate gilt designs on wood. These plaques arrive to me in various states and are generally sanded and primed to house a modern painting on their inner panels (noted on each listing). These historical decorative plaques have been brought new life, imitating the 1865 Museum of Decorative Arts in the Bargello, where Victorian tourists would visit to purchase their own piece of Florence.

How to take care of your artwork

Oil paintings, once dry and varnished, are very difficult to destroy. Your new painting won’t need much attention once its hung on your wall or on display.

  1. Placement: Display your oil painting away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent fading or cracking.

  2. Handling: Always handle your painting with clean, dry hands, and avoid touching the surface directly to prevent smudges or damage.

  3. Cleaning: Dust your painting with a soft, dry brush or a microfiber cloth (or a clean paint brush).

  4. Storage: If you need to store your painting, keep it in a cool, dry place away from humidity and fluctuations in temperature. Use acid-free paper to wrap the painting and store it upright to prevent warping.
